Nigeria’s consumer watchdog, the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged its operatives to work as a team to sustain the mandate of safeguarding public health. Mr Fori Tatama, the outgoing South–East Zonal Director of the agency, gave the advice during a send forth ceremony organised in his honour by NAFDAC in Enugu on Thursday.
According to the director, this is necessary because no single individual can successfully carry out the mission of safeguarding the health of Nigerians.
He explained that he had diligently discharged his statutory responsibilities without fear or favour during his posting to the South East as a director.
Tatama said the agency had moved to the next level in ensuring that only the right quality of drugs, food and regulated products were manufactured, imported, distributed, advertised, sold and used in the South East.
He stressed that his stay in Enugu had spoken volume about the agency in curtailing the nefarious activities of counterfeiters of regulated products in the zone.
In his speech, Mr John Okwori, Deputy Director, Ports Inspection Directorate of NAFDAC in the zone, commended Tatama for carrying the staff along in the discharge of his duties.
Okwori stressed that operatives of the agency would not relent in their efforts to move NAFDAC forward.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of the agency in Enugu State, Mr Chike Obiano, described Tatama as an `astute leader’ who was always leading from behind, devoid of official position and power.
The highlights of the send-forth were the presentation of gifts and offering of prayers for Tatama and family as well as for the youth corps members who served in the agency.
