The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Usman Baba, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, a retired IGP, met with other former IGPs on Wednesday at the PSC Corporate Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja. The meeting which was initiated by Arase had former IGPs in attendance such as Sunday Ehindero, Ogbonna Onovo, Mike Okiro, and the incumbent Chairman of the Police Trust Fund, Suleiman Abba.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, the current IGP, Baba said, “I appreciate the support that I got from the government, the support and synergy of other colleagues and those in the defence and other security agencies, the support from members of the public both in the Diaspora and in Nigeria.
“We have spoken greatly on how to continuously meet and discuss contemporary issues affecting law enforcement in Nigeria. This is not our first meeting, we’re just reinventing it and making it more frequent.
“The meeting with the retired IGs have been going on and the contributions have had a positive effect on the NPF and we’re going to be having such meetings quarterly.
“Crime prevention and control is an issue that is very dynamic and requires a dynamic approach. So, there’s light at the end of the tunnel and we’ll continue to discuss and cooperate.”
He stated that there would be the development of improved synergy between the NPF and PSC regarding appointments, recruitments, disciplining, and promotion of officers in an acceptable and transparent manner.
The retired IGPs assured the PSC of continuous support in its efforts to improve the Police Force.
