The government of Plateau state has re-imposed the 24-hour curfew that had been previously relaxed following reports of fresh attacks on Yelwa Zangam Village in Jos North LGA, of the state, which led to the deaths of scores of people accompanied by destruction of properties. According to Governor Simon Lalong, the 24-hour period will begin at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, August 25, 2021, and will last until further notice. It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the Anagutta natives community with sophisticated weapons around 10 pm on Tuesday night and killed about 36 persons injured others. Those injured are being treated at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos. The gunmen raided the community for hours without help from security agents. The attackers destroyed the bridge leading to the community thereby preventing possible access before launching the attack, killing and maiming everyone on sight.
It was revealed that an entire family was burnt alive in their homes while others that attempted to run into nearby bushes were shot down.
The Paramount ruler of the Anaguta ethnic nationality in the state, Ujah Johnson Jauro who confirmed the attack said he was informed about the attack last night in Naraguta community with many casualties. Investigation is ongoing on the incident.
The Governor urged residents of Jos North to cooperate with the government by adhering to the 24-hour curfew, which will begin at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, August 25, 2021 and would be enforced by security forces.
The Governor who sympathised with the victims called for calm and urged them to show restraint and allow Government to handle the matter to disallow hoodlums from taking advantage of the unfortunate situation to cause mayhem and destruction in the State.
