The House of Reps members have today urged President Buhari to consider the use of foreign mercenaries if the fight against insurgency must be fought to finish.
The green chamber made the resolution following a bill introduced by, Abdulkadir Rahis, a Member from Borno state over the recent surge in the Boko haram attack that has continued unabated in the state.
An amendment by, Mansur Sorro , Member from Bauchi state who also throw his weight behind Rahis saying that the fight is so prolonged that it needed to end once and for all by adopting foreign fighters.
Recall Borno state Governor, Prof. Babagana Zullum had last two weeks made a similar call when the North-East Governors forum meeting was hosted in Bauchi state, saying the federal government needs to hire mercenaries to take the fight to the door-step of the insurgents.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan had in the year 2014 adopted a similar style when the heat of the insurgents was much in the North-East.
However, Buhari then being the opposition leader kicked against the idea which the then administration claimed was yielding result.
The House of Reps now has thrown its weight behind Governor Zullum in urging Mr. Buhari to consider the option of using paid foreign fighters.
While presenting the motion, Rahis informed the house that an attack on 23rd February left 16 people dead and over 60 persons injured, saying this is no longer acceptable.
In his statement, “The attack was one of the most daring as the terrorists indiscriminately launched rockets into the city which inflicted mass destruction on the populace,”.
