The Oyo State Police Command issued a statement that joint security task force arrested 20 suspected Yoruba nation agitators who invaded the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, the capital of the state around 0900am on Saturday. The statement reads in part, “The suspects, who were on military camouflages came heavily armed in an unregistered silver-coloured Nisssan Urban bus containing cutlasses, pump action rifles, cartridges, assorted charms and Oodua nation agitation flag.
“They were overpowered and completely suppressed by officers and men of the command in concert with sister security agencies who acted in swift response to intelligence gathered in accordance with Standard Operating Procedure to the situation.”
In a similar statement, the Nigerian Army disclosed that the suspects engaged in a shootout with its troops, adding that, “troops are on the track of the fleeing adherents and the situation is under control.”
The suspects were caught in possession of 3 pump action guns, 291 live cartridges, 2 expanded cartridges, 5 bullet proof vests, 67 cutlasses, 11 Oodua nation army camouflage attire, amongst other items.
Members of the public are advised to report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest security agency to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
