EbonyLife Partners Sony Pictures To Set Up African Writers Initiative

Nigeria’s premium media conglomerate, EbonyLife media has partnered with Sony Pictures Television to set up an initiative for African writers. The initiative named “Alo” is translated from the Yoruba language, meaning “Once upon a time” will provide a platform for African writers to submit the stories and television scripts. Speaking on the initiative, EbonyLife CEO, Mo Abudu disclosed that submissions for scripts and stories will be open between September 24 and November 5, 2021, noting that the submissions will pass through an extensive screening by executives of EbonyLife and Sony Pictures.

Sarah Dash, Labelle Singer Is Dead

Sarah Dash, the singer and co-founder of the all-female singing group Labelle, best recognised for their 1974 hit "Lady Marmalade," died Monday at the age of 76. Dash's bandmate Patti LaBelle made the news of her longtime friend's death public on social media. "We were just on stage together on Saturday and it was such a powerful and special moment!" LaBelle said on Twitter. "Sarah Dash was an awesomely talented, beautiful, and loving soul who blessed my life and the lives of so many others in more ways than I can say. And I could always count on her to have my back! That's who Sarah was ... a loyal friend and a voice for those who didn't have one."

Actor Odunlade Adekola Dispels Sex-For-Role Allegation

Nollywood actor, filmmaker, producer and director, Odunlade Adekola has debunked allegations he demands sex in exchange for movie roles. Recently some reports surfaced online, accusing the actor of being involved in sex-for-role with the actresses under his tutelage. In a video on his Instagram page, Odunlade challenged any actress who has been a victim to speak up. The actor stated that he does not react to rumour, but in this case, he chose to because of other actresses who might have the intention of coming into the movie industry. The actor in the video said, “They said I normally ask for sex before giving anybody a role in the industry in OAFP (Odunlade Adekola Film Productions). How will I ask a girl for sex before I give her role a movie role? They said I asked some actresses – all the ladies in my group – for sex before giving them a role in my movie.

The Nigerian Breweries Plc, organizers, and sponsors of the Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS) survival reality TV show have announced the return of the show after seven years off the air. The organizers said the show was making a comeback with the 2021 edition, themed “The Age of Craftmanship”.

Netflix, Apple TV Win Awards At 2021 Emmys

Netflix scored its biggest win on Sunday, winning an Emmy award for Best Drama for “The Crown”, and Apple TV joining the elite streaming services with its first win as ‘Ted Lasso’ bagged 7 awards. Comedian Cedric the Entertainer hosted the Emmys which celebrated wins across categories including Best Drama, limited, comedy, and reality among others between 2020 and 2021 TV season. Netflix streaming service bagged 44 award for shows like “The Queen’s Gambit” and “The Crown”, while HBO Network followed Netflix with 19 awards for shows including “Mare of Easttown” and “Hacks”.

Gov. Ayade Appoints Iyanya SSA On Tourism & Entertainment

Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has appointed popular Nigerian musician, Iyanya Mbuk as Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment. Iyanya’s appointment was announced alongside 26 other aides in a statement on Wednesday by the Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the Governor, Christian Ita, adding that the appointment was with immediate effect.
