The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said it has concluded plans to make huge budgetary allocation for the maintenance of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport after the Universal Safety Assessment Audit and eventual certification of the airports by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The Managing Director of FAAN, Engr. Saleh Dunoma who made this disclosure in a chat with newsmen, hinted that the agency has learnt a lot of lessons in terms of aviation safety and general operations in airport. He also stated that there was ongoing massive training and retraining of staff in the sector in line with international best practices.
Dunoma added that the two airports were on the verge of being certified by the International body as they have both scaled through four out of the five stages of certification. He further stated that other airports awaiting certification have adopted the standard operational procedure manuals for improved operations.
