The Lagos State Government Southwest Nigeria says it has exported finished goods worth about N264Bn (735.8 Million Dollars) in the last three years through the Lekki Free Zone (LFZ). The State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye gave the figure at a Press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja at an event organised to mark the 3rd year in office of the state Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.
Oladunjoye who recently joined the State Executive Council explained that the state is leading a campaign on ‘Made in Nigeria’ products and patronage and ensuring that most of the finished products are transported beyond the shore of the country.
“This is one of the landmark achievements of this government in the last three years. The amount is cumulative figures of what Lagos has enjoyed for some time now and owing to this, government is reviewing some of it’s policies, particularly its industrial policy in order to make ways for prospective investors.
“The Lekki Free Zone project remains the flagship of the State Government’s industrial development initiatives. It is conceptualized to develop an offshore economic growth zone, attract foreign investments, promote export, create job opportunities, transfer technology, minimize capital flight and establish a one stop global business haven.
To date, the Joint Venture with the Chinese Consortium has a total equity investment of 180.4 Million US Dollars and US$140.20 million Foreign Direct Investment has been received to date.” Oladunjoye said
