President Muhammadu Buhari has transmitted a bill for the amendment of the country’s minimum wage law to the National Assembly. According to Dailytrust, the move was in line with the pledge by the Federal government to the organised labour to do so on January 23, this year.
The bill which captured the N27, 000 approved on Tuesday by the National Council of State (NCS) as the country’s new minimum wage is expected to be read at both chambers of the National Assembly today (Thursday).
Presidential Adviser on National Assembly (Senate), Senator Ita Enang confirmed the transmission of the bill in a phone interview with the Newspaper on Wednesday.
Although the Federal Government says it would pay its workers N30, 000, states are at liberty to pay their workers above the N27, 000 approved by the Council of State.
Meanwhile, Organized Labour had since rejected the proposal and may resume action any moment from now.
