As inflation and insecurity have continued to bite hard on Nigerian citizens, the 36 governors of the federation have resolved to put heads together with President Buhari tomorrow, 17 August 2022 to forge a way forward for Nigerians in this trying time. The Director of Media and Public Affairs of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo made this known today, saying discussion about the state of the nation's economy shall be squarely addressed during the meeting.

According to Bello-Barkindo, the Nigerian governors have resolved that it was high time they sit up to their responsibility as people's leaders and tell themselves the bitter truth as Nigerians are no longer finding it easy and therefore have to look for a way out of the mess.

He said this is coming for the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19, the governors coming together was relegated to the background by the state executives, but now want to put heads together to brainstorm on way forward for varying challenges facing the country.

In his statement, “Two things will feature prominently in the conversation: the economy and security. This will be the first time in the year, contrary to media reports that Governors had collectively advised the president on the wedding of fifty-year-olds from the federal civil service and other spurious suggestions meant to impose further hardship on the people, which governors will collectively meet to consider a total overhaul of the nation’s economy.

Bello-Barkindo explained, “The meeting which, according to the invitation issued by the Director-General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mr. Asishana Bayo Okauru, will commence at 2 pm. It begins with the launch of the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge Fund, followed by the launch of the World Bank SFTAS charter before the real conversation on the state of the economy begins.

“There will also be such regular updates as the CARES program and the Chairman’s remarks. All governors are warmly welcome.”, the statement added.
