The citizens of Chile elected the country’s youngest-ever president-elect, 35-year-old Gabriel Boric on Sunday in an election victory where Boric won by a margin of almost 1 million votes out of 8.3 million votes cast by 15 million eligible voters. Boric had nearly 56 percent of the total votes cast compared to his closest opponent, Jose Antonio Kast, who conceded before the announcement of the final election result. Kast congratulated Boric and said, “From today on, he is the president-elect of Chile and he deserves all our respect and constructive cooperation. Chile always comes first.”
According to reports, Kast was controversial during his campaign, he had initially promised to close down the ministry of women’s affairs which resulted in a massive mobilization of youths that voted in favor of the president-elect of Chile, Gabriel Boric.
Presidents of other Latin American countries such as Cuba, Argentina, Colombia, and Ecuador have started congratulating Boric on his election victory.
Boric will be inaugurated as President in March next year.
