In 1973, 18-year-old Steve Jobs applied for a job. That was probably before he realised that he was meant to be the boss and not anyone else’s employee, and eventually co-found Apple Inc with Steve Wozniak. The one-page application form that Jobs filled by hand – with spelling, punctuation errors and all – will be auctioned off next month.
The yellowed piece of paper is estimated to be worth US$50,000 and shows Jobs is keen to work in the technology field. He writes "Steven jobs" under name and simply puts "reed college" (where he studied in Portland, Oregon for six months before dropping out) as his address. Jobs writes "english lit" as his major and includes his birthday "24 February 1955".
Jobs write "yes" in reply to "Driver's License?", and in response to "Access to Transportation", he scribbles "possible, but not probable". He includes "Computer" and "Calculator" as part of his skills, adding "yes (design, tech)" to them. He describes his "Special Abilities" as "electronics tech or design engineer. digital."
Besides this form, the auction will also include two other items from Jobs – a signed Mac OS X technical manual valued at US$25,000 and a 2008 newspaper clipping of Jobs introducing the iPhone 3G valued at US$15,000.
The auction opens for bidding from March 8 to 15 at RR Auction.
