Both BlackBerry Ltd and Qualcomm Inc have declared on Thursday, that they are expanding their partnership to key into the swift growing connected automobile market.
BlackBerry, which has developed software QNX Hypervisor 2.0 to run complex computer systems in cars, revealed it would utilize Qualcomm’s hardware in areas such as virtual cockpit controllers, electronic control gateways and infotainment systems.
According to Qualcomm in June, QNX Hypervisor 2.0 was compatible with its Snapdragon 820Am automotive processor, which enables vehicle manufacturers to reduce hardware complexity and cost by merging multiple systems on a single platform.
The automotive industry is one of the fastest emerging segments of the technology market, as vehicle manufacturers battle to add more autonomous features and ultimately seek to build self-driving cars.
Qualcomm, which provide chips to Android smartphone makers and Apple, said last year it would purchase NXP Semiconductors for $38 billion to become the foremost supplier to the fast-growing automotive chips market.
