HTC’s flagship smartphones always feature some of the highest-end specs available in the tech market. The U11 and U11 Plus came with the latest Qualcomm processors, killer camera technology, and plenty of “extra” features like expandable memory and IP ratings. So it should not come as a surprise that the new HTC U12 Plus spec sheet is right in line with most other high-end phones of 2018.
Though the U12 Plus has an all-glass design, HTC decided against including wireless charging support. The company said it omitted wireless charging so it could have more room to fit in a bigger 3,500mAh battery.
The U12 Plus comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, 6GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage, and microSD card support. It also has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance (yay!), but no headphone jack (boo!).
For its camera, the U12 Plus seems to be an upgrade over its predecessors, at least on paper. It sports a 16MP wide-angle lens and a 20MP telephoto lens around the rear, while the front has two 8MP cameras. The U11’s camera was one of the best of 2017, so we’re really excited to see how the U12 Plus performs.
The U12 Plus is running Android 8.0 Oreo. Though Android 8.1 has been out for five months, HTC still couldn’t manage to load up the latest version of Android on its new smartphone.
While you may not get the latest version of Android for now, you are getting an upgraded version of HTC Edge Sense.
Edge Sense 2 still allows you to squeeze the sides of the phone to access apps and shortcuts, but now you can double-tap the side of the device to shrink the screen for better one-handed usability.
