FIFA president Gianni Infantino has given his whole hearted backing to the controversial Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, which will feature in three of Europe’s top five leagues rom next season. VAR, as it is known, has been trialled since the start of this season in Serie A and the Bundesliga, and will be introduced to Spanish La Liga next season.

Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger has lampooned Manchester United Boss, Jose Mourinho for claiming that the about 300 Million Pounds spent to assemble the current United squad was inadequate to favorably compete with big money spender, Manchester City. Following Manchester United draw at Old Trafford to Burnley on Tuesday, Mourinho said that the 286 million Pounds spent by the club since he arrived last season was not enough with City spending prices usually reserved for strikers on fullbacks.

The Super Eagles dropped one place from 50th to 51st position in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released on Thursday on FIFA’s official website. Following their drop in the rankings, the Eagles are now number nine in Africa. The Eagles’ Group D 2018 FIFA World Cup opponents Argentina, Croatia and Iceland also did not move too much in the rankings. Africa’s other representatives at next year’s World Cup Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco are 23rd, 27th, 31st and 40th respectively.

American sprinter and world 100 metres champion, Justin Gatlin, twice suspended for doping, is reportedly embroiled in fresh doping investigation for possible violations conducted by the United States Anti-Doping Agency and Athletics Integrity Unit of the International Association of Athletics Federation. A guardian news report indicate that Super Eagles coach, Salisu Yusuf is expected to release the final list of players for the Morocco 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) this week. According to the report , the team which is billed to depart Nigeria early next week, had its final training session yesterday evening at their Abuja camp before the players were allowed to take a two-day break to join their families for the Christmas celebrations.

Birmingham will be named as the host of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after tumultuous bidding process even as Durban was stripped of the event in March, according to reports Wednesday. The Games were originally awarded to Durban in 2015 but the South African city had the event taken away for financial reasons.
