The Kaduna-based umbrella body of the Muslim community in Nigeria, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has condemned in strongest terms, the decision of both the NYSC and the Nigerian Army to proceed with their respective orientation and recruitment exercises during Ramadan.
The ongoing NYSC Orientation exercise for 2017 Batch “A” corps members (stream 1) as well as recruitment screening by the Nigerian Army, has been condemned as disadvantageous to Muslims by the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI.
The Kaduna-based umbrella body of the Muslim community in Nigeria, condemned in strongest terms, the decision of both the NYSC and the Nigerian Army to proceed with the respective exercises during Ramadan.
The decision of the group led by its president, Abubakar Sa’ad, the Sultan of Sokoto, was part of resolutions reached at its annual council meeting held from between May 21 and 22 in Kaduna.
The group said the decision of NYSC and the Army was unfair to Muslim faithfuls observing their fasting and prayers.
Although the group subsequently called on the government agencies to suspend the activities “until after Ramadan to avoid putting prospective candidates at a disadvantage,” the NYSC opened its orientation camp on May 23 while the Army commenced its recruitment screening on May 27.
The Muslim fasting season, Ramadan, began May 27 and will last 30 days.
