Forty eight hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Willie Obiano as the winner of the Anambra state Governorship election conducted on Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the people of the state, security agencies, INEC, local and international observers and other stakeholders on the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the President congratulated Governor Obiano on his victory and assured that the federal government would partner with the state to ensure peace and development in the state. The statement read in part;

“The processes leading to the election and its peaceful conduct and outcome, have shown that our electoral reform is bearing positive fruits. This is very encouraging and I am determined to give Nigeria free and fair elections, no matter which way the results swing.”

“President Buhari assured the Governor-elect that the Federal Government is ready to work with him for the greater harmony, peace and development of not only Anambra State but the entire country. He wished the returning governor a successful new term in office,” Adeshina added.
