The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared the commencement of an indefinite strike in a statement issued by the Association on Tuesday evening. According to NARD, their demands include the immediate payment of the 2023 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), the payment of skipping arrears and the immediate release of circular regarding one-for-one replacement.

The Association is also demanding for new hazard allowance, the upward review of Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) in line with full salary restoration to the 2014 value of CONMESS, amongst other demands.

The strike action comes after the 2-week ultimatum issued to the Federal Government by NARD on July 5 regarding meeting all of the Association’s demands.

In an attempt to prevent the strike, Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives met with the leadership of the Association on Monday behind closed doors, urging them to halt their strike action in order for the leadership of the House to proffer solutions within 2 weeks, regarding the issues raised.
