The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stated that it would collaborate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to stop vote-buying in the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 18th, 2022.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made this known on Tuesday in Ekiti State during a meeting with traditional leaders in the state ahead of the state’s upcoming governorship election.
According to him, the Commission would work closely with Nigerian anti-graft agencies to prevent vote-buying in the coming election in Ekiti State, as has been observed recently in some primary elections conducted by some political parties.
He said the only criteria for a credible election is for it to be free, fair, transparent, and peaceful.
The INEC Chairman further said the Commission had already registered 989,202 voters for the Ekiti election, out of which about 740,000 had obtained their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the election.
