A fact-finding committee set up by the Zamfara State Government to proffer solution to the security turbulence that has bedevilled the state has recommended the dismissal of five (5) Emirs and thirty-three (33) District Heads found culpable.
While presenting the committee report to Governor Muhammad Bello Matawalle, the Committee Chairman, a retired Inspector General of Police, M.D Abubakar, disclosed the five emirs, 33 district heads and some village heads were found culpable of aiding and abating banditry in the state.
The former IG revealed, the five Emirs, the 33 district heads and some number of village heads have to be disposed of their title as the committee has found them in one way or the other unpatriotic to be called leaders, and have partaken in the atrocities the bandits meted on the innocent citizens of the state.
According to the committee, one of the Emirs must be dragged to court for alleged culpable homicide and hiding bandits in his domain.
The committee further recommended that there should be immediate overhauling and restructuring of all the 17 Emirates in the state to usher in more patriotic individuals to be at the helm of affairs as done in other states.
More so, the report also indicted ten Military men as they too actively connived with the bandits, where the report recommended that the federal government should parade them to court.
Again, four police officers were also found culpable and the committee recommended their dismissal while four others recommended for demotion in rank and seven others recommended for promotion for their display of professionalism.
The committee chairman called on the state government to ensure the implementation of its report, stressing that, “The peace currently being enjoyed by the people of the state depends largely on the ability and the political will of the governor to implement the recommendation.”
In remarks, Governor Matawalle applauded the committee for their well done job, assuring them that, since he had sworn an oath to protect the lives and properties of the citizens of his state and to uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic, personal relationship, religious or ethnicity would not influence his decision in the implementation of the committee’s report.
He assured the committee that on the matters that concern the federal government, he would meet with the President on their recommendations as it affects them.
