The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state has engulfed in a fresh crisis over the emergence of Musa Wada as the party flag bearer for the November 16, 2019, gubernatorial election.
Dino Melaye, the Senator representing Kogi West and Abubakar Ibrahim, son to the former governor of the state, Ibrahim Idris has yesterday kicked against the emergence of Wada as the flag bearer and have since filed a petition before the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to revisit the matter.
Dailytrust report that the aggrieved were sighted at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, where they went to register their displeasure.
Accordingly, Abubakar scored a total of 710 votes while Senator Melaye scored 70 votes at the just concluded primary poll conducted on last Tuesday and Wednesday in Lokoja, the state capital.
Melaye disclosed that he has rejected the outcome of the primaries on the fact that the process was not concluded as at the time when gunmen disrupted the exercise.
It was learnt that Melaye submitted his petition to the party national secretary, Senator Ibrahim Tsauri.
Phone calls put to the secretary was not answered as at the time of filing this report, as Abubakar, on the other hand, was still attending a meeting with the party’s NWC.
Meanwhile, Engineer Wada, who emerged as the winner after garnering a total of 748 votes, made a surprise appearance at the party’s secretariat as well in the company of supporters and political associates.
It was also learned that the party was set to present the party flag to Mr. Wada, however, declined due to tension from the aggrieved and scheduled it for today.
