Pakistani rights activist Malala Yousafzai, who survived being shot in the head by the Taliban for campaigning for girls' education, on Monday visited Nigeria for the second time in just 3 years.

On July 12, 2014, on her 17th birthday, Malala visited then President Goodluck Jonathan in what was adjudged one of the most vocal pressure on the Nigerian Government to step up rescue of the kidnapped Chibok school girls.
The then teenager, who turned 20 last week, extracted a promise from Nigeria’s President for the return of the girls who were then just about 3 months in Boko Haram captivity.
It however took the loss of executive power by the PDP to APC at the following presidential election in 2015 for some progress to be eventually visible on the rescue of the girls.
So far, about 103 of the 276 abducted girls have been released by the terrorists through government negotiations while close to a dozen more has escaped captivity since 2014.
Malala’s latest visit may not be unconnected with some optimism that more of the girls can still be freed.
