Tight Security As President Buhari Prepares To Visit Home Town

Adequate security measures have been put in place in Daura, hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State, ahead of his return. President Buhari, who will exit power next week upon the completion of his second term in office, is expected to return to Daura after handing over to President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Residents of Daura town who have enjoyed being in the spot light since President Buhari assumed office are highly anticipating his return. The Daura Emirate Council is planning a grand durbar, a traditional horse-riding event, in honour of Buhari, also known as Bayajidda II.

Court Dismisses Atiku, Obi's Request For Live Coverage Of Proceedings

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) had on 22nd May 2023, dismissed the call for live broadcast of proceedings by the presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the presidential candidate of Labour Pary (LP) Peter Obi, against the election and declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the last presidential election. Citing section 36 of the Nigerian constitution, a five-member panel of court led by Mr. Haruna Tsammani held that fair hearing of court proceedings “does not amount to conducting court sittings on television or in a stadium.”

The United States Secretary Of State, Anthony J Blinken, has spoken with President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu about the readiness of the Joe Biden administration to strengthen their partnership with the incoming administration of Nigeria. This was disclosed in a statement by Matthew Miller, the spokesperson of the US Department of States.

Tinubu's Inauguration Unstoppable - Agbakoba

Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Dr Olisa Agbakoba has stated that the inauguration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as president on 29 May, is unstoppable, and any form of delay or postponement is unconstitutional. He added that although electoral tribunals are dealing with petitions filed, however, there is no constitutional process to delay the inauguration.

May29: Nothing Will Stop Tinubu’s Inauguration – Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has stated that the inauguration of President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu remains sacrosanct and nobody can stop it. The Sultan who spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at a roundtable engagement with traditional and religious rulers organized by the World Bank, said instead of trying to truncate the inauguration, Nigerians should rather pray for Tinubu’s administration to succeed.

Senate Passes N876bn NDDC Budget

Senate approved the 2023 budget of N876 billion on 16th May 2023 for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), out of which N451 million was set aside for aides of 12 board members of the commission. The approved budget also contains N576 million earmarked for running the Office of the Chairman of the Commission, Lauretta Onochie. The breakdown for the office of the Chairman showed that the personnel cost would gulp N156 million, overhead -N312 million, and Internal capital N108 million. For the Managing Director’s Office, N546.597 million was earmarked for personnel costs, N747.500 million for overhead costs, and N163.504 million for Internal Capital.

 As Nigerians await the inauguration of president-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29, preparations are underway for the transition of power and the subsequent relocation of key political figures. One of the notable landmarks at the heart of this process is the iconic “Glass House,” the residence reserved exclusively for the outgoing president in the days leading up to the inauguration of the new president and the new government. The Presidency on Friday explained that the movement of President Buhari from the official Presidential residence into the Glass House, within the Presidential Villa, is routine, to allow the readying of the official residence for the incoming.
