Following President Muhammadu Buhari's insistence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) conducts fresh congresses and convention to facilitate the emergence of new leadership for the party, couple with resolutions reached at the last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the party has notified the Independent National Electoral Commission of its plan to conduct congresses and convention as required by law.

A party source was quoted by Dailyrust as saying that the time table for ward, local government and states congresses as well as the national convention might be rolled out before the end of the week. The report further said the list of the convention committee would also be announced soon, with Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State billed to serve as chairman.

The report also said based on the documents being worked on at the moment, ward congresses would be held in the first week of May, while local government, state and finally the national convention would follow, including opportunities for objections and petitions as the elections progresses

Meanwhile, the National Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Maimala Buni, has confirmed that the party had since contacted INEC on the planned convention. He however refused to disclose the exact dates the congresses and convention would be conducted.
“Yes, we have issued the ultimatum which is a great success and so many things are being perfected. On the dates, I can’t talk on that now but we are definitely working on it. It would be released soon.”
