Nigeria’s Surveyor General of the Federation, Mr. Ebisintei Awudu says his office has all inventory of government properties and will assist the Special Presidential Investigation Panel to recover all Federal government property across the country. According to the Surveyor General, the constitutional duty of his office is to provide information on international and interstate boundaries.
Surveyor Awudu was speaking when the Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla visited him in his office to seek collaboration that would help the panel with information to fighting corruption and tackle the abuse of office.
Mr Obono-Obla said that Corruption is cancer that needs to be stopped and the Surveyor General’s office is important to national development.
“We are trying to get an inventory of the entire federal Government inventory which some of it have been taken over by squatters illegally.We want to retrieve them but we do not have the database. This is where the Surveyor General’s office comes in. We want to collaborate with you because we know you have all the records we need to do our work successfully,” Mr Obono-Obla added.
Mr Awudu applauded the administration’s budgetary increase in his office which enables it to initiate professional activities of international standard and value.
“The Surveyor General office had never had it so good like now Since Nigeria became independent in 1960. I, therefore, assured the Panel that my office will provide all the necessary requirement and information to assist it to succeed in its assignments”. Surveyor Awudu said.
In 2017, the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property in Nigeria was set up by the Nigerian Government, headed by Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla to investigate and recover all government Assets illegally possessed by individuals, groups or organizations.
The panel was also asked to investigate any Public Officer who is alleged to have been engaged in corrupt practices, unjust enrichment of self, abuse of office or has in any way breached the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
Since then Panel has been visiting and engaging relevant agencies seeking collaboration to achieve it mandate of recovering all government assets.
