Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday visited Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, in furtherance of his quest to secure the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2019 general elections. The former Vice President was received at the Akure Airport by the Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, before driving by road to Ado Ekiti.
Atiku is currently meeting with a few party stakeholders in the state.
Atiku who recently dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to contest PDP presidential primaries after the party amended its constitution to allow new entrants vie for elective positions in the general elections.
The former Vice President was wooed by party members to leave the APC for PDP in order to fly the party's flag in the presidential election. However, other intending candidates have vowed to give him a run for his money.
Those seeking to also contest the ticket include former Governor of Kaduna state, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, former Governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, former Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau and the Governor of Gombe state, Ibrahim Dankwambo among others.
