The 2017 budget, recently passed into law by the National Assembly has been transmitted to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for assent. The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting president, Laolu Akande made this disclosure on Friday via his twitter handle, @akandeoj.

In the tweet, Akande stated that the "2017 Budget-Appropriation Bill now officially received in the Acting President's office and undergoing very prompt and diligent consideration".

It would be recalled that prior to the transmission of the approved budget, there was a mild controversy over whether acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will sign the said budget. This was in view of the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari who was away in the UK for a follow-up medical treatment. This controversy was however put to rest by the Ag. President who explained that he would sign the budget after going through its contents.

Meanwhile, sources in the Office of the Ag president contacted by Vigil360 disclosed that the Ag. President intends to thoroughly study the approved budget as well as get confirmatory inputs from relevant government agencies before granting assent.
