The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has expressed disappointment over the issues discussed at the just-concluded meeting of the Northern Governors and Traditional leaders, elected representatives, and other big wigs from the North.

The group disclosed that it was shameful for such a class of people to come together to the only talk about petty things instead of dwelling on burning issues that are bordering on the lives of northerners. But rather choose to dwell more on EndSARS and regulation of social media space instead of strategizing how to liberate the north from the clutch of insecurity that is consuming northerners in their hundreds every day.

According to Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the CNG spokesperson, he lamented that such August meeting was just wasted discussing the aftermath of the EndSARS and other petty issues instead of strategizing on how to rescue the north as their southern counterpart are already demanding how the federal government should rebuild their region.

The statement reads; “We are disappointed that such a meeting should lack the courage to make clear pronouncements on the unprovoked attacks on northerners and their properties at a time when their southern counterparts are proposing claims of trillions of Naira in compensation for their people.”

The group said they were not happy that the meeting failed to capture the northern position on the state of affairs especially the one bordering on the security of the northern people but instead ended up chasing a shadow of itself on the purported attack on the Lekki protesters that has attracted the international attention.

The CNG further stated; “It is disappointing that the meeting felt to see as a priority the need to send a delegation to ascertain the extent of damage and to console the affected northerners in the southern states.”

While believing the northern governors would get their priority straight and redeem their failure to put together a more define northern position, CNG expressed reservation as it consigns the two committees and their roles as it regards what affects the region.

They recalled that in the past, several similar reports were trashed in the history bin; they pray that this time around a recommendation that captures the real problem of the region is brought forward.

The statement expressed hope that it would be different, at least this time around, expecting that genuinely patriotic and productive minds would be engaged for meaningful input particularly for the Youth and Civil Society Committee which is expected to engage the youths to make them bring forward their demands in other to end the protest.

Meanwhile, the group expressed its condolence to the families of all northerners who lost their lives to this carnage.
