Reactions have trailed the coronation of one Mr Mike Zhang a Chinese trader in Kano state, North West Nigeria. The Emir of Kano, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II had recently approved the appointment and instalment of Zhang, as a chief and leader of the growing Chinese community in the northern Nigerian state.

Vigil360 gathered that Zhang's coronation was done in a bid to enhance interaction and business with the Chinese in Kano State. Mike Zhang's new title, Wakilin Yan China, translates to 'leader of the Chinese residents' and represents the growing importance of the community in Kano.

Some of the reactions are stated below; Eno Obong opined that this is good, it shows they are welcoming. However, the Igbo man who has been trading in the same locality, longer than the Chinese, has most likely been overlooked. Tomorrow they would say "we are one'. Charity they say begins at home. In Nigeria the case is different.

In her words, Rebecca noted that we need to stop giving people from colonizer countries our highest honours. Like, what is the matter, please?
