The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has fixed July 13th for the ruling on the application of the erstwhile Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Godwin Emifele. Defendants in the case are the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, the Director General of the States Security Service, DGSS and the States Security Service, SSS. The presiding judge, justice Hamza Mu’azu has yesterday fixed the hearing date after listening to both parties in the suit.
Although, counsel to Emifele, Joseph Daudu (SAN) has approached the court seeking his client bail from the secret police custody.
The court had earlier ordered that Emifele should be granted access to his lawyer and immediate family while in detention.
However, counsel to the AGF, Tijani Gazali has revealed that arrest of the embattled CBN governor and his subsequent detention in custody was an administrative decision.
By the way, the ex CBN Governor is being detained on the order of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, magistrate Court, he said.
On its part, counsel to the SSS, I. Awo disclosed that Emifele constitutes a flight risk to the case as there is credible information that once he is free, he will board the next flight to flee the country.
