Justice Binta Nyako has finally sentenced the kidnap kingpin, Bala Hamisu alias Wadume to seven years in prison without the option of a fine. Wadume was convicted for illegal dealing in prohibited assault firearms and escaping from lawful detention after he was arrested. The office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had brought the case before Justice Binta Nyako after Wadume was arrested in, Ibbi, Taraba state for alleged involvement in kidnapping activity and subsequent escape.
Recall, Wadume has been in awaiting trial since 2019 when he made headlines, after involving the Military to his rescue when he was arrested by the police for being a suspected kidnapper, the incident that lead to the killing of some policemen at a military checkpoint in Wukari, Taraba state.
Three years down the lane of justice, justice Nyako has convicted Wadume on counts two and ten of the thirteen count charges brought against him and six others by the prosecuting party.
The charges marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/30/2020, which are: Aliyu Dadje (a police inspector), Auwalu Bala (aka omo razor), Uba Bala (aka Uba Delu), Bashir Wazlri (aka baba runs), Zubairu Abdullahi (aka Basho) and Rayyanu Abdul. judgment was passed on July 22, 2022, with other defendants.
Meanwhile, detail of the court judgment emerged yesterday, 14th August 2022 indicating that the prosecuting team was upheld.
Accordingly, Inspector Dadje was sentenced to three years for tampering with Police records to conceal a crime.
Dadje was the Station officer at the Ibi Divisional Police Headquarters, Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State at the time the crime was committed.
Inspector Daje was said to have tampered with entries made by the leader, Inspector Felix Adolije of the IGP, IRT team in August 2019, by tearing off the entry page to cover up for Captain Tijani Ahmed Balarabe and his team.
Another accomplice was Mr. Abdul from Kano who harbored Wadume in his apartment after Wadume escaped from detention in Ibbi.
Two other suspects, Auwal Bala, alias Omo Razor, and Bashir Waziri, alias Baba Runs, who were listed as 3rd and 5th defendants were discharged and acquitted for lack of evidence against them.
