The Federal House of representative has declared a national emergency on the increasing spate of ritual killings in the country. The lawmakers called on the Inspector General of Police to rise to his task and bring the perpetrators to book before it spread like wildfire.
The Reps members also called on the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board to increase monitoring of video produced with ritual killing contents by ensuring that the part containing the ritual part is not allowed into the public space.
Adopting the motion under the motion of urgent public importance, Deputy minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu, called on the National Orientation Agency office (NOA), the media, school proprietors, and parents to work towards enlightening their wards with the aim of discouraging the raising cases of the ritual killing.
The lawmaker brought the ugly trend into the limelight sighting many cases of kidnapping with the purpose of ritual killings as missing person incidents have continued to increase.
He also laments that video content has filled the internet space with content depicting such brutish barbaric expedition, saying if left unchecked, such movies are capable of impacting negatively on the mindset of our Nigerian youth.
