The United States (US) government has launched a website in Nigeria known as ReportMagoMago.com which was designed to assist citizens to fight corruption. This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the United States Consul General, Claire Pierangelo during the launch of the website in Lagos.
The statement reads in part, “The U.S. government is committed to supporting anti-corruption initiatives and collaborative efforts that prevent graft, strengthen investigation and prosecution of corruption, promote accountability and transparency, and empower reformers.
“The U.S. Consulate General in collaboration with the Inter-Religious Coalition Against Corruption in Nigeria launched ReportMagoMago.com, a unique web-based portal that leverages citizen engagement to fight corruption.”
Led by Imam Shefiu Abdulkareem Majemu and Bishop Emmanuel Gospel Isong, the Inter-Religious Coalition Against Corruption in Nigeria was established in 2016 by both Muslim and Christian religious leaders with the primary goal of addressing how faith-based communities could take a major role in anti-corruption advocacy in Nigeria.
The event was attended by religious, political, and traditional leaders as well as members of law enforcement, judicial officers amongst others, who received a guided demonstration on how to navigate the ReportMagoMago.com platform.
Pierangelo said the new initiative puts the power to report corruption in the hands of the Nigerian people.
She also urged Nigerians affected by corruption to share their experiences which could create a new movement in citizens’ engagement in the anti-corruption war.
