Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has assured residents of Jos North LGA of the state that the breach of peace following an attack by hoodlums at Gada Biyu on Tuesday night, has been put under control. Governor Lalong, through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Makut Simon Macham, said, “The intervention of the security personnel immediately brought the situation under control as the youths were dispersed and the road cleared, thereby restoring traffic flow.” He, however, warned against any act that could lead to the breakdown of law and order in the area. He assured residents that, “security forces have continued their operations to dominate areas affected by recent attacks in Bassa and Riyom LGAs with a view to restoring normalcy and arresting perpetrators, as earlier directed after an emergency Security Council Meeting”.
Hoodlums on Tuesday blocked Gada-Biyu Highway, set two trucks on fire, and assaulted passersby. At least two people were killed during the incident.
It was gathered that the incident was a reaction to the recent attack in some communities in Bassa LGA, blamed on Fulani herdsmen, where several lives were lost, farms destroyed and over 200 houses were set ablaze.
Chairman of Jos local government council, Shehu Bala, confirmed the incident.
He said: “Yes there was an incident at Gada-biyu area, some trucks were burnt.
“Now things have been brought under control, but by tomorrow, I am sure we will get more information.”
