#Endsars: Canadian High Commission Debunked Granting Asylum To, DJ Switch

The Government of Canada through its high commission in Nigeria say they do not grant asylum seekers application directly from individual but only through a second or third party individuals. This followed the rumor making round that Canada has granted asylum to, Dj Switch, an EndSARS Protest leader who was responsible for circulating fake video of purported Lekki killing by the Nigerian Army.

DJ Switch claimed that the Nigerian Authorities were after her following her role of posting a fake video of the Nigerian Army at the Lekki toll gate during the EndSARS protest that left many dead including police officers.

However, in a series of tweets today, through its official handle @CanHCNigeria, the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria revealed that no one can guarantee Immigration Application approval except the Canadian Immigration Authority.

The Canadian official revealed that this is important at this particular time as its country has an interest in Nigeria, moreover said, the Canadian Immigration and Refugees Board had in 2018 that the highest asylum seekers application it received were from Nigeria.

The statement which was partly captured; “Canadian Embassies, High Commissions, Consulates, Consulates-General or Honorary Consulates do not accept refugee applications directly from people.

“Canada works with the United Nations Refugee Agency, other designated referral organizations and private sponsors to identify individuals in need of resettlement, and who are outside their home country.

“You cannot apply directly to resettlement. You must be referred to Canada by a designated referral organization or a private sponsor.

“No one can guarantee that your immigration application will be fast-tracked or approved. Only a Canadian migration officer can decide if you can come to Canada.“All the information you need to apply to visit or immigrate to Canada is available free on the official Government of Canada website.”

According to the officials, their county was the first country to set a standard for reviewing refugees claim especially women and since has been actively involved in the role.

Meanwhile, it explained that one can make refugee claims upon arrival in Canada at points of entry through land or air border with the agency responsible for that or inside the town at the nearest Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) office.
