The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by his Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Wednesday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency declare a state of emergency on security in Nigeria. He made the call in Abuja at a press conference organized by the Council.
The Sultan said it is disheartening to see in Nigeria today that security challenges including banditry, kidnapping, Armed robbery, ritual killing have continued to claim the lives of innocent Nigerians on daily basis.
The statement which was made available to newsmen in Abuja was signed jointly by Aselemi Ibrahim, Head, Media and Communication; Alhaji Yusuf Chinedozi Nwoha, Director Administration, and Prof. Salisu Shehu, Deputy Secretary General of the NSCIA.
The Council concluded that the level of insecurity in the country has reached an alarming state, noting that the declaration of the state of emergency would not be out of place and should be with immediate effect.
“The situation of Nigeria today is desperate and desperate situations require desperate measures in the collective interest of well-meaning Nigerians”, the statement added.
