Over 300 Nigerians Renounce Citizenship - FG

The Federal Government has revealed that 309 Nigerians have renounced their citizenship in the last 16 years, with over half of them renouncing last year, as disclosed by the Ministry of Interior. “Down to those Nigerians who renounce their citizenship, so far we have registered a total of 309,” said Shuaib Belgore, the permanent secretary of the interior ministry. Mr. Belgore, addressing journalists at the State House in Abuja on 26th January 2923, disclosed that between 2006 and 2021, 150 Nigerians renounced their citizenship while 159 renounced in 2022 alone.

Train Derailment: NRC Suspends Warri-Itakpe Services

Following the incident of train derailment along the Ajakouta-Itakpe train line, the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC has suspended Warri-Itakpe rail services until further notice. Yesterday, Sunday, 22nd January 2022 an incident was recorded where a train from Warri derailed at kilometer 30, Ajkouta-Itakpe where about 148 passengers were hurt while over 300 were stranded inside Kogi forest amidst the insecurity in the zone. 

N13Bn Disbursed To Families Of Deceased, Injured Police Officers

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba on Thursday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja disbursed cheques worth N13.6Bn to the families of 6,184 deceased and injured police officers under the uninsured period from 2012 to 2021, adding that the Nigeria Police Insurance Company has been incorporated.

Gunmen Invade Benue Community, Kill Scores

Suspected bandits attacked a community opposite the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp at Abagena, Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue in the late hours of 19th January 2023, killing scores. An eyewitness in the community revealed that the attack which took place at about 2100hrs claimed the lives of eight persons, including women and children, as well as scores of persons seriously wounded. “Some of the victims were beheaded and their heads were taken away. The bushes are still being combed in search of more victims. “A man, his wife, and four children were all wiped out in the attack.

Buhari Receives CBN Gov At State House

President Muhammadu Buhari on 19th January 2023, received a team from the Arab Bank for Economic Development (BADEA) led by its Director General, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele to the presidential villa.
This is Emefiele's second meeting with the President since he returned to the country on 12th January 2023, after he had left the country following the investigation of allegations against him by the Department of State Services (DSS) on financing corruption and terrorism. “You are welcome back. “I am grateful that you are well received,” Buhari told Emefiele during the meeting at the State House.
