Ahead of the 2023 polls scheduled to hold on February 25 and March 11, the Federal Government (FG) has ordered the closure of all polytechnics across the country until after the elections. This was contained in a letter issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, which directed Idris Bugaje, the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to convey the instruction to rectors and provosts of all polytechnics nationwide.
The letter reads, “In view of concerns expressed on the security of staff, students, and properties of our respective institutions, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, following extensive consultations with the relevant security agencies, has directed that all polytechnics be shut down and all academic activities will be suspended between Wednesday, February 22 and Tuesday, March 14, 2023.”
This development comes barely a week after the National Universities Commission (NUC) ordered the closure of all universities nationwide within the same period, until after the upcoming general elections.
