Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended about 76 gay suspects over convening a same-sex wedding party in the state. The Public Relation Officer of the NSCDC, Buhari Sa’ad made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Gombe over the incident parading the suspect before the camera at the command Headquarters of the security agency in the state.
According the Command PRO, their office got the intelligence that there was a gay party ongoing in one house along Gombe-Bauchi road, and the command swiftly dispatched its operatives to raid the event venue.
Sa’ad said, “They were arrested at Duwa Plaza along Bauchi-Gombe Expressway while holding a homosexual birthday, and they had plans to hold a same-sex wedding before our men raided the scene,”
The PRO revealed that amongst the arrested suspects, “Fifty-nine are males and, 21 have wilfully confessed to being homosexuals, and 17 other females were arrested alongside their male counterpart at the scene.
In year 2011, the Nigerian authority criminalises same sex marriage that its offenders if found guilty risk a jail term.
NSCDC said the suspect will be charged to court to answer for their crime, describing the incident as a social vice; and a crime to the Nigerian law and in Gombe State.”
