The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has disclosed that on July 6, the former Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Adedibu Ojerinde, would be arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja regarding his involvement in an alleged N900 million fraud.
Operatives of the anti-corruption commission had arrested Ojerinde in Abuja on March 15, 2021, on allegations of 18-count charges bordering on funds misappropriation, diversion, making false statements amongst other charges.
ICPC had accused the former head of JAMB of committing several frauds while in charge of JAMB and the National Examination Council (NECO) between 2003 and 2021.
Ojerinde is the sole defendant in the suit filed before the court and Ojerinde’s lawyer is fighting for a plea bargain for his client.
A plea bargain is when the prosecutor and the defendant reach an agreement whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser charge in exchange to drop other charges or for a more lenient sentence.
Ojerinde’s case was arraigned on July 6, 2021, by Justice Obiora Egwatu because the lead lawyer to the ICPC disagreed with the terms of the plea bargain application.
