Gratification - INEC Deputy Director Bags Six Years Jail Term

In a ruling by Justice Yusuf Birnin-Kudu of Jigawa State High Court has on 28th June 2019 sentenced a Deputy Director of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Auwal Jibrin, to six years in jail. The convict was arraigned before the court over unlawful enrichment, collecting gratification and breach of trust.

Findings further revealed that Jibrin was convicted alongside another INEc staff, Garba Ismaila who bagged seven years for benefiting from the $115.010m largesse of a former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Kano zonal office, sentenced the men over the weekend following their prosecution.

Speaking on the development, Acting EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, stressed on Sunday, 30th June 2019 that the two convicts received N45 million out of the N250 million disbursed in Jigawa State to influence the outcome of the 2015 general elections.
