On Thursday, a suicide bomber detonated his vest near a political gathering in Afghan capital, Kabul killing about nine people. The political meeting was organized by supporters of Atta Mohammed Noor, the governor of Northern Province of Balkh.
The Spokesman of Kabul Police Force, Abdul Basir Mujahid confirmed the incident to newsmen. He stated that the attacker was stopped at the entrance of the hall where the meeting was taking place before he detonated his vest killing the victims and disrupting the meeting. Mujahid disclosed that the hall is usually used for wedding reception and for sensitive political meetings.
According to him, "the incident disrupted a political gathering under way inside. The dead included seven policemen and the rest were civilians."
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera has confirmed from the Health Ministry spokesman, Ismail Kawoosi that five people also sustained injuries and have been transferred to the city's emergency hospital for proper medical attention.
Meanwhile, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levante (ISIL) has since claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban denied being involved in the attack.
