Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping have berated the United States of America (USA) for interference in the affairs of other countries. The two leaders, during an hour-long phone conversation on Thursday 8th, February 2024, discussed the creation of a “multipolar, fairer world order”. Moscow and Beijing have continued to expand their global influence over the past two years as they ramp up ties in trade and defense.

The two world powerhouses have also been carrying out trade in roubles and yuan which has hit over $200.2bn in 11 months, as they move to phase out trade in US dollars.

According to the Kremlin, “The leaders of the two countries realize that the US is practically implementing a policy of double containment, [toward] both Russia and China,”

Russia and China also discussed the situation in Ukraine and how to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.
