China has increased tariffs by up to 25 percent on 128 U.S. products, from frozen pork and wine to certain fruits and nuts, escalating a spat between the world’s biggest economies in response to U.S. duties on imports of aluminum and steel.

The tariffs, to take effect on Monday, were announced late on Sunday by China’s finance ministry and matched a list of potential tariffs on up to $3 billion in U.S. goods published by China on March 23.

Gazans Bury Their Dead After Bloodiest Day In Years

Gazans buried their dead on Saturday (March 31) with calls for "revenge" a day after a mass protest led to clashes that saw Israeli forces kill 16 Palestinians in the bloodiest day since a 2014 war.

But only several hundred protesters returned to tents erected at sites near the Gaza Strip's border with Israel to resume demonstrations planned to last six weeks in the blockaded enclave.

On the diplomatic front, UN chief Antonio Guterres and European Union diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini called for an "independent and transparent investigation" into Israel's use of live ammunition.

Israeli forces on Friday killed at least two Palestinians while a dozens of others were wounded during clashes as thousands marched near Gaza's border with Israel in a major demonstration marking Land Day.  According to Al Jazeera, Mohammed Najjar, 25, was shot in the stomach in a clash east of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip while 38-year-old Amin Mahmoud Muammarin was shot dead in Rafah, the Palestinian health ministry said in a statement on Friday.

An air strike by the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen killed 12 civilians, including seven children, in the costal city of Hodeidah on Monday, medics and a witness said.

Medics and a witness who saw the wreckage said the air strike had destroyed a house in al-Hali district, where displaced civilians from other provinces were settled.

The 12 victims were all from the same family, they said.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has returned to her hometown in Pakistan for the first time since she was shot there by the Taliban.

Ms Yousafzai, who now lives in the UK, was shot in the head for campaigning for female education in 2012.

Her family's home region of Swat was once a militant stronghold, and she was attacked on a school bus there at 15.

The Russian Government has expelled 60 United States diplomats and closed the St Petersburg consulate in a tit-for-tat response to US action over a spy poisoning case in the UK. According t BBC, Russia's foreign minister had warned that other countries that expelled Russians in solidarity with the United Kingdom could expect a "symmetrical" response.
