Kenya's Supreme Court this afternoon upheld the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in a rerun election held in October 2017. All six judges sitting on this case said that the petitions filed to the court to cancel the results of the rerun of the presidential election had no merit.
The leader of opposition, Raila Odinga had challenged the outcome of the first election in court leading to the cancellation of the poll. The court also ordered the conduct of fresh poll. Odinga however challenged the processes of the second exercise and subsequently boycotted the poll.
According to Al Jazeera, following today's ruling, opposition supporters are expected to organize rallies against it. Previous rallies and protests had led to the death of Kenyans. Opposition elements accused the authorities of using armed militia and live bullets to disperse supporters
Meanwhile, the report says "Odinga has not said exactly until now what he will do after the ruling is announced."
Kenyatta is expected to be sworn in on November 28.
