Unidentified gunmen on Saturday stormed the rural home of Kenya’s Deputy President, William Ruto's in Eldoret in northwest Kenya. Local reports indicated that the assailants overpowered the police officers guarding the home.
A senior area police chief said the armed assailants stormed the home and shot a police officer, with gunmen still held up in the premises.
The incident happened a few minutes after Ruto who was on a political campaign in the area left for another political rally in neighbouring town, where he joined President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The attack comes 10 days before the country holds general elections. Mr Ruto was not at home at the time of the incident.
