Veteran actor, Sadiq Baba has disclosed that he is suffering from leukemia and called on Nigerians to come to his aid.
Daba said he lives off a drug called Gleevec, used for the treatment of the disease and gets supplies of the drug free-of-charge from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, courtesy of a donor agency based in the United States.
However, he stated that buying the drug off-the-counter is quite expensive.
In an interview with a journalist in Lagos, Daba said: “To get the drug at OAU, you have to go through a process of evaluation. Then you are recommended to the foundation that supplies the drug. But, if you are going to buy it off the counter, a pack of it will cost you about N1.7m.
And this will last for three months.”
Daba’s battle with leukemia started toward the end of 2015. At first, he had thought that he was having the first symptoms of a minor ailment. A visit to Hospitals in Abuja Ibadan, however, confirmed the ailment.
On his treatment, he stated that “If the Max Foundation had not been doing this and as a patient, you were to spend money for treatment, you would be dead.”
In 2015, Daba won the best actor at the AMAA for his role in the movie, October 1st.
