Lagos state police command has yesterday announced it has arrested the controversial singer, Azeez Fashola better known as Naira Marley, over role he played in a circumstance that lead to the death of his former record label signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known As Mohbad. This was made known by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, has been taken into custody for interrogation and other investigation activities.”
Earlier on his official twitter page on Tuesday night, Naira Marley announced his arrival in Lagos to assist in the ongoing probe into Mohbad’ death, while noting that he would be meeting with the police.
He said, “I’d like to share that I’ve just arrived back in Lagos, Nigeria to assist the authorities with the ongoing investigation. It’s important I do my part for Imole.
His tweet, “I’ll be meeting with the police with hopes for the truth to be uncovered and for justice to prevail.”
Police had earlier invited Naira Marley and one of his associate music promoter, Balongun Eletu, aka Sam Larry (now in police custody), for questioning over Mohbad’s demise.
Last week, police also confirmed that medical pathologists had concluded the autopsy directed on Mohbad, to ascertain the real cause of his death while the police await the result.
The police authority revealed, “Autopsy has been concluded. Awaiting results.” This development followed the exhumation of Mohbad by a combined team of the Nigeria Police Force and health officials.
A nurse who was also alleged to have injected Mohbad while on his death bed has been arrested.
Meanwhile, a coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death was directed by the Lagos State Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu last Friday.
