The Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF) has announced that it has resolved to meet with the organized labour unions over the removal of fuel subsidy in the country. Governor Kayode Fayemi, NGF Chairman, made the announcement during a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja, saying all the governors met and discussed issues of national importance including the Electoral Amendment Bill and the expected removal of fuel subsidy.
He noted that the NGF will meet with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the preferred mode of addressing the issues.
“The Forum also discussed the issue around petroleum subsidy and concluded to engage the leadership of the NLC and TUC as sub-national leaders on how best to address the issue with a view to salvaging the Nigerian economy for the Nigerian people,” Fayemi said.
“So, we shall be engaging the NLC as sub national leaders and with a view to ensure that the outcome of our engagement will also be fed into the national discourse,” the NGF Chairman said.
He added that though the removal of fuel subsidy is the exclusive responsibility of the federal government, the governors contributed to the debate.
