Eden Hazard's father, Thierry Hazard has revealed the reason why the player has refused to extend his contract with the West London Club. Thierry Hazard said the decision was aimed at making himself available in case Real Madrid come knocking in January. In an interview with Le Capitale, he said;

“What I can say about it is that he hasn’t signed a contract extension with Chelsea because he wants to be available if there’s a potential interest from Real Madrid. He sees himself playing there, but right now there hasn’t been any kind of talks with Madrid.”

Hazard, 26, left Belgium at a very young age, and learned his trade within the Lille academy. He made his way up through the ranks to play for Lille's first team in 2007, and then went on to win the league and the league cup in France in 2011. A year later, Hazard made the move to Chelsea, where he has since received four Ballon d'Or nominations and won the Premier League in 2015 and 2017.

The player has not hidden his admiration for Real Madrid as he had severally spoken highly of Zinedine Zidane. He signed for Chelsea in 2012 and remains contracted to the club till 2020.

The Belgium international has been offered a new 300, 000-a-week deal but he is holding out until the end of the season.
